 SALAVERRY, AND TRUJILLO, PERU

Salaverry is the name of the port where we docked. There is a small town there, but the main city is Trujillo which is about 10 miles from Salaverry.  We were able to get car and  to take us around. This gentleman has studied for 2 years to become an English speaker for tourists.  He was very nice and had a nice clean car with working air conditioning. Two thumbs up!

We first went to the Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon.  This is two pyramids where the Moche  people buried their dead Royalty.  The tombs had many burial artifacts such as pottery in them.  Very well preserved artifacts  from pre-Columbian Peru.

We then went to the site of the city of Chan Chan sometimes called the oldest mud city because it is built completely from adobe.. Chan Chan is a pre-Colombian city and archaeological site near Trujillo on northern Peru's desert coast. It was the seat of the ancient Chimú civilization before it fell to the Incas. The vast adobe complex has citadels, including the partially restored Tschudi Palace. They have uncovered one palace which covered about 30 acres.  There was one gate in and the entire place was surrounded by a tall wall. This is where royal people lived. It had everything within is walls including storehouses, fresh water springs, and a burial site.    Chan Chan Archaeological Zone - LimaEasy

They worshiped the Moon because it controlled the sea and their livelihood was the sea. the diamond shaped walls represented the fishing nets.

The fish represent the currents some fish point north some point south. And of course the seagulls
