Puerto Madryn, Argentina
Colonia
We are in Puerto Madryn today and will go explore Colonia a UNESCO World Heritage village. This is a 500 year old village. The control was disputed for years between the Portuguese and Spanish. The Portuguese built a fort there and the Spanish took up camp about 1000 yds away. Every 5- 10 years they would have a battle and the winning side would be in power until the next battle.
The streets are paved with stone. Depending on who had won the last battle that is the style they paved the next street in. The Portuguese were the odd shaped stones, the Spanish were the more regular stones
Portuguese and Spanish style buildings side by side.
Back in Puerto Madryn, the bull stadium built in 1907. In 1911 the outlawed Bull fighting. Now it is used for concerts and community events.
