 Gibraltar, overseas British Territory

Of course the mountain is the main focal point here. 6 of us hired a van to take us to the top.  The mountain has many caves that they turned into military garrisons during WW2. The caves were indeed drilled all the way through to make it accessible from the other side.  There is several groups of monkeys on the hillside.  It was said that the monkeys bring good luck. During the war the monkey population was dwindling. Churchill ordered more monkeys brought in.  Nowdays the monkey populations is controlled by sterilization after a couple of years.  They have their own vet and are fed everyday which keeps them on the mountain out of the town.

Our trusty van. The corners had to be taken by 2 point turn.

I don't know how many vans are on the mountains at any given time, but I counted 6 at one stopping point.  They really have a system and each driver knows how to use it.

The port and city are
really built on fill dirt. Every where there is a flat area means dirt, sand and rocks we brought in from the Sahara, Morocco and other countries.

From this vantage point you can see three countries. In the far distance, Morocco, near distantance Spain, and of course Gibralter.

Monkeys everywhere!
They don't bother you as long as they think you have no food. However if they hear a wrapper or anything they will be all over you willing to fight you for whatever you have.

Into
St. Micheal's cave we go. This one was kept as is.

This is the view of the Mediterrean.
How's that for a get away?

The condos on the north side can only be owned by Citizens of Gibraltar.

Looking to Spain.  They decided to build an airport between Gibraltar and Spain so they brought in the dirt and built it with the runway between the two countries.

But then the people who work back and forth said it was too far to go around the airport now. So they have a road that goes across the runway.  There is a gate on both sides that closes when the runway is being used.

The shopping district.
