Paamuit, Greenland

Paamuit, Greenland is a very small village with only 1300 residents in winter and 4000 in the summer. The fishermen and the tourists come back when the weather gets more hospitable. There are many apartment buildings that look deserted. The summer season usually begins the first couple weeks of June, so we are early.  It was 40* with a wind of 16 mph. So it was a bit chilly. Heavy double layers were a must.We stayed out about 4 hours and came back. It was Sunday so not much was open. Not even the museum. In fact there were few people around.

Most residents of Greenland are Inuit. There has been people in this area since 1500 BC.  The first trading company was established in Paamuit area in 1740.

This Norwegian designed church was built in 1909 during Greenland's colonial era. There is always a ship hanging in the chapel to sage guard the fishermen.
